Sunday Conversation: Faith No More And Tomahawk Singer Mike Patton On Why It’s An Artist’s ‘Birthright’ To Explore Creatively

In the world of frontman Mike Patton, known for his work with Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas and much more, it is totally normal to take eight years off from a band and come back to make a new album, as he has done this year with Tomahawk.

After turning his attention the last few years to Faith No More and Mr. Bungle, it’s Tomahawk’s turn. Patton and his Tomahawk band mates have returned with the excellent Tonic Immobility.

Patton explained to me when we spoke recently, the idea of moving between several bands, composing film scores, collaborating with friends and doing solo stuff is not only okay, it is every artist’s right. “It’s a birthright,” he explains, for artists to explore their creativity in as many ways as they can.
