Jan Terri (born June 17, 1959 in Chicago) is an Chicago underground musician who is famous for his VHS music videos. She is behind two albums; Baby Blues (1993) and High Risk (1994). The studio albums came out along with several music videos. In recent times, her videos have had a renaissance on YouTube.
Terri was born and raised in Chicago, already at the age of five she started as a child model. Together with her parents, she performed in a family band, where her father was wearing “blackface” as “Black Elvis”.
Terri graduated in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in “Broadcast Communications & Management Certificate for Sound Engineering” from Columbia College. After various jobs, she ended up as a limo driver. In the early 1990s, she recorded a series of music videos to promote her music. She handed these out to customers while driving a limo. In this way, her music videos became cool favorites in the advertising and marketing environment in Chicago. Terris’ uneducated style of music and the extremely low production value of the videos are the key to her success, this is “so bad that it will be good”.
Towards the end of the 1990s, Marilyn Manson came across one of Terris’ music videos on VHS. Manson became so interested in this artist that he invited Terri to perform at one of his parties. This will be a huge success, so Terri was offered to be a warm-up band for Manson in the period 1998-1999. Some recordings of this can be found on Manson’s God is in the TV concert recording DVD. In 1994 came her second album High Risk, at the same time as Terri built up a fan base in Chicago. In 2002, Terri was the victim of a violent car accident, but she survived and has recently resumed her musical career.
In the 2010s, Terri has released the following studio albums: The Wild One (2012), No Rules (2013) and Holiday Songs (2014).
