How Sad How Lovely (live) – MIKE PATTON & URI CAINE

FORGOTTEN SONGS – Modena 26/05/2018

Born August 3, 1924, disappeared August 1974, known professionally as Connie Converse, was an American singer-songwriter and musician, active in New York City in the 1950s. Her work is among the earliest known recordings of the singer-songwriter genre of music. Converse left her family home in 1974 in search of a new life and was not heard from again. Her music was largely unknown until it was featured on a 2004 radio show and a compilation album of her work, How Sad, How Lovely, was released in March 2009.

LYRICS:

How sad, how lovely,
How short, how sweet,
To see the sunset
At the end of a street
And the day gathered in
To a single light
And the shallows rising
From the brim of the night
Too few, too few
Are the days that will hold your face, your face in a blaze of cold
How sad how lovley,
How short how sweet
To see the sunset at the end of a street
And the lights going on
In the shops and the bars
And the lovers looking for the first little signs
Like life, like your smile, like the fall of leaf
How sad how lovley, how sweet
