9-y-o tackles police brutality on debut reggae single

Jamaica Gleaner, 17 September 2020

Nine-year-old California-based Kailash tackles the issue of police brutality on his debut reggae single Seems So Strange (Police Brutality).

Kailash explained why he decided to take on such a serious issue: “When George Floyd was killed, it really affected me. I have read about injustice in several books, including those about Ghandi, Martin Luther King, Jr, and Louis Armstrong, among others. However, to see something like that happen in real life and to realise that it keeps happening all the time, that really shocked me, and it made me feel sad and angry. I know I’m only a kid, but I wanted to do something about it. I decided to use my voice and make a song about it. If I’ve learned anything, it’s how powerful music can be,” Kailash explained.

Seems So Strange is the first single from Donsome Records’ Black Tears rhythm. Scheduled for release next month, the project features songs from a number of established acts including Anthony B, Glen Washington, Lutan Fyah, Chezidek, Tommy B, and Marcia Griffiths, among others… [+]

Kailash performs ‘Satta Massagana’ with Pure Roots, then Don Carlos calls him back on stage during his set. Kailash performs ‘Satta Massagana’ again with Dub Vision, and then Don Carlos sings it as well. This is Kailash’ first and second public performance of the song. The Right Vibes Festival took place in Bonny Doon near Santa Cruz California on June 19 2021. #pureroots#kailash#rightvibesfestival

There is a land, far far away
Where there’s no night, there’s only day
Look into the book of life, and you will see
That there’s a land, far far away
That there’s a land, far far away

The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords
Sit upon His throne and He rules us all
Look into the book of life, and you will see
That He rules us all
That He rules us all

The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords
Sit upon His throne and He rules us all

Look into the book of life, and you will see
That He rules us all
That He rules us all

There is a land, far far away
Where there’s no night, there’s only day
Look into the book of life, and you will see
That there’s a land, far far away
That there’s a land, far far away
