NICK CAVE & WARREN ELLIS – Earthlings

“Oombaya, oh Lord” – Recorded by Nick Cave & Warren Ellis during the Ghosteen sessions in 2018, where it was known fondly as ‘Krishna’, the track did not ultimately feature on the album. The song was also filmed by Andrew Dominik for the 2022 film This Much I Know To Be True, but did not feature in the final film. It drifted onto part 2 of B-Sides & Rarities (2021), but finds its real home here – alone on this strange 7” – with only a forgotten image for company.

Children Halloweened in sheets
Go running up and down the streets
I thought these ghosts had gathered here for me
I thought these songs would one day set me free
Laughter fills the sky above
How can such a thing provoke our love?
I thought these ghosts were there to set me free
I thought these songs had traveled here for me

I think they’re singing to be free
As one star dies and the night collapses
A rise in love enraptured
I thought that love would one day set me free
I think my friends have gathered here for me

Oombaya, oh Lord
Oombaya, oh Lord
Oombaya, oh Lord
Oombaya, oh Lord
Oombaya, oh Lord
Oombaya, oh Lord
Oombaya, oh Lord
Oombaya, oh Lord
Oombaya, oh Lord
Oombaya, oh Lord
Oombaya, oh Lord
Oombaya, oh Lord
